Eli Janney – Producer / Engineer / Mixer

A Platinum and Gold record awarded producer and engineer, I was born and raised in Washington, DC, learning under the masterful ears of Don Zientara (Minor Threat, Fugazi, Bikini Kill) at Inner Ear Studios. I worked there recording many of DC’s finest bands, including The Nation of Ulysses, Shudder to Think, and Jawbox, and eventually engineering for producer Ted Niceley (Fugazi, GVSB, Noir Desir). We both ended up moving to New York in 1991; me to pursue a musical career with the bands Girls Against Boys and Ted to continue producing.

Girls Against Boys was active from 1991 to 2003, making six albums (including three for Touch & Go, one for Geffen) and traveling the world, headlining festivals and touring with such acts as Jesus Lizard, Garbage, Rage Against the Machine, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. During the periods between tours and recording (not much time) I continued to record and mix bands, and discovered a love of DJing and remixing. I held a weekly party in SOHO in NYC for a year and a half, and remixed groups like Sneaker Pimps, Morcheeba, Duran Duran and Garbage. I retired from touring in 2003, concentrating on studio life, working with Ryan Adams, Jet, Motion City Soundtrack, and producers Steve Lillywhite and Adam Schlesinger along the way.  Recent Stuff:  The Soft Pack Producing and Mixing for upcoming Kemado (US)/ Heavenly (UK) release; Wilco Ashes of American Flags engineering recording and mixing the 5.1 mix; Holy F*ck mixes for forthcoming full length; Delamarca mixing La Puta Life (forthcoming full length for Madrid based rockers)

Jim Smith – House Engineer

Jim is a recording engineer based in Brooklyn NY. He is primarily working at Saltlands Studio. He gained his degree in music technology in 2003 and lived as a musician and engineer in Seattle for 4 years before moving back east. Jim grew up in Philadephia, and began studying music at a young age and continued through college as a member of many classical music ensembles. Jim became an engineer toward the end of his studies as a musician, deciding that being a part of making recordings was the most exciting aspect of the world of music for him. He is happily working with wonderful artists in New York. Recent credits include Alexi Murdoch, Pela, The French Kicks, Dawn Landes, The Brooklyn Academy of Music, Wilco, Au Revoir Simone, Josh Ritter, Obits, Allie Moss, The School of Visual Arts, Hillman Curtis, The Getty Museum, and “Away We Go” by Sam Mendes.
